Today, Emily Morgan and I officially submit our petitions to run as candidates for Plainfield City Council. Tomorrow, the campaign kicks into high gear with our first event – a virtual town hall.
The COVID-19 crisis has turned all of our lives upside down, and it has a huge impact on campaigning and elections. We can’t knock on doors or host in person events. April and May elections in New Jersey will be conducted through mail. As we can’t even stand within 6 feet of each other, some of our opponents had to resort to virtual signatures to be included on the ballot. Fortunately, our team already had well over 500 physical signatures – of a required 75 – by early March.
Either way, technology affords us the ability to connect with residents in ways we never considered before. We encourage you to attend our virtual town hall on Tuesday, March 31st at 7pm. One hundred people can sign up to attend and ask questions that are filtered through moderator John Krychiw. There is no limit on the amount of people who can watch it live, or after the fact, on the New Jersey Progressive Democrats of Union County’s YouTube Channel.
