In February, I introduced readers to Plainfield teacher and photographer Joel Plummer’s impressive ebook documenting the nascent movement against state-sanctioned police murder of black men and women.

The Black Lives Matter ebook begins around the 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin, and can be downloaded at www.blacklivesmatterbook.com.

“The point…is to show the viewer that if you decide to enlist in the fight against oppression, you will not stand as an individual,” says Plummer in its pages, “but rather as part of an army of many thousands who collectively have more than enough power to change the world.”

Nearly a year after its first release, Plummer has added six new chapters of exceptional images and commentary. The latest addition documents New York’s #ShutitdownA14 march in April, a Baltimore solidarity action in New York after the murder of Freddie Gray, a police killing victim’s vigil at Rutgers in May, Newark’s Million Peoples’ March in July, and the Justice or Else commemoration of the Million Man March in the nation’s capital this October.

The free book’s latest iteration is compatible with iPhone, iPad, Android, and all desktop computers. Joel Plummer only asks that all who download tell one other person about it.

Let’s hope the movement for black empowerment, like this ebook, will develop many more chapters.
